Public Lecture: The Chemistry Between Us – On Scents and Smell
In this public lecture (in Dutch), Jasper de Groot takes you into the surprising and often hidden world of scent. Our sense of smell may be the most underestimated sense we have. For a long time, we believed our nose played only a minor role – until COVID-19 and a wave of new scientific research woke us up. Smell turns out to be a quiet but powerful force in our daily lives: it shapes how we experience food, warns us of danger, and even influences our social communication and sustainable choices. Armed with a fan, he fills the room with fragrances and quite literally shows – and lets you smell – why our nose is far more important than we tend to think.
